Change in mode of payment of National Service Allowances

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has announced a change in mode of payment of allowances to national service personnel. This follows series of collaborative consultations between the management of NSS, the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) Ltd, and officials from the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department.

A press statement issued by the Acting Executive Director of the NSS, Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, says from January 2015 payment of allowances to all national service personnel at post shall be effected through the biometric E-zwich platform.

This, he says, is to ensure that payments are made directly to national service personnel by cutting down on the existing long chain of effecting payments. This change in mode of payment of allowances to National Service Personnel forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to eliminating “ghost names” from the public payroll through a robust public sector reform agenda.

The statement therefor urges all national service personnel at post across the country, who currently do not have E-zwich cards to contact any bank of their choice for E-zwich cards, and immediately forward their names and E-zwich numbers to their respective NSS district offices before Wednesday, December 15, 2014.

It reminded national service personnel that speedy compliance with the directive is essential to the timely processing and payment of all allowances next year.
