GETFund sponsored students appeal for payment of living allowances

Some Ghanaian students studying on a GETFund sponsorship at University of Dundee, Scotland –UK have petitioned GETFund over delay in the payment of their living allowances. A statement signed by the leader of the group, Tahiru A. Hakeem stated that he together with his colleagues “are virtually getting stranded in a foreign land and are also under pressure from our accommodation providers to pay our outstanding rent charges.” Below is the petition by the students

PETITION TO GETFUND BY FINANCIALLY STRANDED GHANAIAN STUDENTS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE (UK) CURRENTLY UNDER GETFUND SPONSORSHIP

We, Ghanaian Students of the University of Dundee (Scotland –UK), currently studying under GETFund sponsorship have found the inevitable need to collectively petition GETFund, through your widely peritonised media, for its over delay in the payment of our living allowances.

We are virtually getting stranded in a foreign land, which is worrying. We are over 20 students here under GETFund sponsorship but we are all now wallowing in pain out of financial need to the extent that we cannot even help one another with anything.

Besides, we cannot even concentrate in our studies given the psychological trauma that has befallen us due to the situation.

Aside the question of our sustenance here, we are also under pressure from our accommodation providers to pay our outstanding rent charges. The time for payment of the last instalment of our rent charges is now one month overdue and we are being served with letters from our hostel managers threatening legal action against us if we are unable to settle all outstanding arrears by the end of January.

We can state without an iota of exaggeration that if GETFund does not intervene immediately, (within this week), the situation would be uncontrollable and embarrassing.

Thank you.
