The Ghana National Union of Professional Students (GUPS), has congratulated Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman on her assumption of office as the Minister of Education. This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Michael Paa-Kwecy A. Adu, National President, copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.
It said: “It is a simple truism and palpable fact that the educational sector plays a very pivotal role in the development of our nation Ghana”.
The statement urged Prof. Opoku-Agyeman to make good and maximum use of professionals in the country`s educational sector by tapping their expertise and getting them fully involved in all matters of importance.
It said GUPS was ready to work with the Minister in all possible ways to lift the educational sector to a higher pedestal.
The statement said: “May your policies see to the upgrading and expansion of educational facilities; also we hope to see more relevant national goals oriented policies, good incentives for teachers and subvention on fees paid by Ghanaian students in private institutions”.
It said GUPS was very confident that Prof. Opoku-Agyeman having been through all the levels of the educational ladder, and with her rich experience as well as being a baked educationist, would bring to bear the experiences to give the education sector a face – lift to ensure quality education in Ghana.
The statement said the GUPS prayed for God’s guidance for the Minister to surmount all challenges.
The GUPS is a group of students in all tertiary institutions in the country that run professional programmes.
