The Upper West Students Union (UWESU) has elected its new national executive members at its third annual congress held in Wa at the weekend.
The five executive members would manage the affairs of the union for the next two years.
Mr. Tengan Festus Kunkpe, National President of the Union said the union was faced with a lot challenges, especially in the area of finances and appealed to members to endeavour to pay their dues promptly and regularly to enhance the operations of the union.
He said poor coordination on the part of the executives was also a hindrance to the progress of the union.
Mr. Kunkpe encouraged all members to work hand in hand and also to try to get other unions who had not yet registered to join the union for the development of the region.
Mr. Mumuni Sulamani, a patron of the union urged the union members to work together as a team, and to see everybody as a leader and should not sit back and give the burden to the executive alone to work for the progress of the union.
Mr. Alidu Bayana, a student at the University of Cape Coast was elected as President of the union, with Mr Debpuur Jacob, a student of Jahan Training College as the General Secretary.
Sakina Gado a student of University for Development Studies won the positon of financial controller and Mumuni Hebatu from Bagabaga training college took the women’s commission position.
The position of programmes and project coordinator went to Mr. Evans Beyuo.
Alhaj Saeed Salia who chaired the meeting encouraged the members to see the development of their region as a topmost duty and urged them to work for growth.
