From a publication in UNAIDS (UNAIDS I 2011–2015 Strategy Getting To Zero), some startling statistics where found. A total of 1.8 million people died from AIDS-related causes and more than 7,000 people are newly infected with HIV every day.
Today marks World Aids Day 2015. The World Health Organization and other international health bodies have adopted a five (5) year strategy to eliminate HIV/AIDS worldwide.
Some of these goals and vision are outlined below;
Vision: To Get to Zero New Infections
Goals for 2015: Sexual transmission of HIV reduced by half, including among young people, infections prevented among people who use drugs.
Vision: To Get to Zero AIDS-Related Deaths
Goals for 2015:
– Universal access to antiretroviral therapy for people living with HIV who are eligible for treatment.
– TB deaths among people living with HIV reduced by half.
– People living with HIV and households affected by HIV are addressed in all national social protection strategies and have access to essential care and support.
Vision: To Get to Zero Discrimination
So many has been done in different communities and institutions to ensure that these goals are met, however, there is a silent majority who are not having access to these information primarily because of language barrier and location in relations to their communities.
PROJECTHOPE targets a section of the people by focusing on developing a World AIDS Day message in a native Ghanaian language to ensure the right information is available for this category of people. They are the Kayayei (The female Ghanaian dead porter).
These folks are largely illiterates or have very basic education. We decided to break the language barrier by developing messages that they can relate to.
We intend to visit their communities and show them this video within post World AIDS Day as well all the early parts of January.
Our main goal is to create economic opportunities through a flexible work plan to improve the health and living standard of the Kayayei.
Support this video by viewing and sharing. It’s the only way we can ensure our message goes far.
Thank you as you click to view and share our World AIDS Day Message Video, Thank you.
