Two students managed to smuggle two pigs into the Ugandan Parliament to demonstrate against youth unemployment and political corruption, Al Jazerra reports. The students were arrested later but not before the security at parliament building were questioned and two officers arrested.
The Ugandan Parliament is manned by 100 police officers, according to an MP from the ruling party. The pigs were painted yellow, which is the colour of the ruling National Resistance Movement.
Benard Atiku, the shadow Minister for Youth, said: “It was unfair to arrest the youths because they were expressing displeasure with the level of unemployment and poverty in the country. We demand that they are released because they have committed no crime.”
