As part of the Ghana Association of Publishing Students (GAPSA) Book Week Event by Publishing Studies students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in collaboration with the GAPSA Book Reading Clubs, students from six schools in around KNUST participated in an event dubbed ‘Literacy Meet’.
The event saw students from Weweso M/A, Ayeduase R/C, Good Shepherd R/C, Kotei R/C, Bomso M/A and Sacred Heart schools competing in a quiz and spelling bee competitions.
The book reading clubs were set up by the Department of Publishing Studies under the leadership of Mrs. Aba Brew Hammond to promote good reading habits among children in Ghana.
Mr. Duke Preprah Mensah, a lecturer from the Department of Publishing Studies, KNUST, admonished the students acquaint themselves with reading of books as it enhanced their vocabulary and enriched their minds.
Mrs Aba Brew Hammond, the Head of Department for Publishing Studies expressed her joy with the level of participation of all the schools that attended the program. She presented books to all the schools that participated in an attempt to enrich the book club libraries.
Good Shepherd R/C emerged winners of the Spelling Bee Competition and Kotei R/C placed first in the quiz competition. Students interacted with lecturers and students of the department after the program.
